DIODE 36
“Diode 36” by Rodger Martin Yacht Design – a unique sportboat. She was conceived as a prototype for a future one-design class emphasizing speed, tactics, economy, and versatility. She is a “crossover” boat incorporating both dinghy and keelboat characteristics. Through successive iteration of Velocity Prediction (VPP) analysis, Rodger Martin Design has shaped a hull incorporating widest beam possible for upwind stability and power, while being trailerable. Fine waterlines forward and deep forefoot provide wave-piercing and upwind efficiency. Waterline length is maximized for speed, hull sections are rounded for low wetted surface, and section aft are wide for offwind planing. She is very light displacement, enabled by minimizing internal structure and utilizing a thick (1 inch) core throughout.
Diode is designed for a small crew of four with controls laid out to both port and starboard for adjustability from the rail. The asymmetric spinnaker is tacked to the bow, eliminating the need for a pole. An innovative feature is the rotating carbon keel– it can be rotated enabling numerous tactical options, such as rotating to windward offering increased upwind pointing ability. This is enabled by setting the keel in a drum-shaped cassette. The keel can be lifted for setting the boat on its trailer.
The first Diode 36, "Rampant" was built by New England Boatworks in Portsmouth, RI and launched September 17, 2004 | | | AERODYNE 43 HAS ARRIVED
Aerodyne 43 Hull #1 has arrived from South Africa and was outfitted at New Wave Yachts, the dealer for the boat, in Manchester, MA. See NEWS item, "TANGO" WINS IN IN KEY WEST! | | | QUEST 40
Preliminary design is complete on a continuation of the Quest line of boats at Holby Marine Co. - the “Quest 40”, which will follow Holby’s successful Quest 33 and Quest 30 sailboats. The Quest 40 will combine the smaller boats’ sporty look and top performance with increased cockpit and belowdecks space for more comfortable racing and cruising. | | | QUADRILLE REPAIRED AT ORIGINAL BUILDER
45' "Quadrille" - the fast, shoal draft (5'9")cruiser built by Goetz Custom Sailboats in 1992 has been rebuilt and remasted after her dismasting in Rhode Island Sound last Spring while training for the Marion-Bermuda Race. The season was lost for owner Chris Terajewicz & crew, but "Quadrille" will be the better for it for the future, as she has a new, lighter carbon spar from Offshore Spars. The sweepback was increased to reduce the need to rely on runners. The repairs have made her lighter, stiffer, and faster!
Following her repairs, "Quadrille" has been used on a promotional photo shoot for North Sail's Marathon 3DL line. Owner Chris Terajewicz reports that the boat sails better than ever; the repairs were successful in all regards.
