RMYD USING RAPID PROTOTYPE TECHNOLOGY
We have truly taken our design process to a new level with the use of Rapid Prototyping (RP) technology. RP enables a CAD design to be "printed" physically; a great tool for building a model for design visualization and advertising.
The Derecktor 66 was designed in Rhino 3D surface-modeling software, then interfaced with Zcorps RP technology, which builds a model by repeatedly layering a mixture of plaster and binder, much like an inkjet printer does. Each layer has a resolution of up to 1/1000 inch. The model is then saturated with thin epoxy, faired, and finished. The model pictured here is 63cm long, and made in four parts. Much thanks to Dan Clarke, Brian Corkum and Chris Bull at Brown University, and Don OBrien for their help bringing the model to life. | | | 48.5 FT CRUISER
Here is a handsome, comfortable cutter, designed to be easy to sail by one person or a couple. With her light draft & simple sail plan she will work well as a daysailer and be easy for a couple to sail across oceans. She is buoyant, seaworthy and dry. Layouts on deck and below are generous for two people & very comfortable for guests as well. The interior is well lit by multiple windows and hatches, providing a “summer cottage” feel to the boat rather than a “damp cave” feel.

56 We have finished a refit design for a Sundeer 56 owned by a couple intending to sail around the globe, including a 4.5' stern extension and a taller more powerful rig. Our Velocity Performance Predictions show a possible 2 minutes / nautical mile performance boost in light air (5 knts), twenty seconds / nm in heavy air (25 knts). Best of luck to them as they cruise the high seas!
Before Refit With Stern Extension | | | MAJOR REFIT FOR PANTA RHEI
7 We have completed design work on a refit for "Panta Rhei 7" a Joubert-Nivelt Sprint 50 racer that has been outfitted for shorthanded oceanic voyaging. Our major design input included a hard dodger, an anchor deployment system that stows the hook below deck, a larger rudder, below-deck headsail furler, and new deck layout. Work has been done at New England Boatworks, with the help of Stewart Wiley. Walther and Ellen van den Biggelaar are just about ready to take to the sea after many months of hard work on their newly customized boat, much of which they did themselves. | | |
