RETRACTABLE CABIN LADDER FOR GUNBOAT CATAMARAN “TIGER LILY”

A retractable cabin ladder for the Gunboat catamaran “Tiger Lily” in stainless steel and carbon fiber.  The existing ladder system was replaced with this retractable system, set into the existing cabinetry.  The design emphasizes efficiency in materials to create a “floating step” aesthetic.

ATRIUM SKYLIGHT SHADE SYSTEM

A retractable sunshade system for a very large ( 35′ x 35′ ) square atrium skylight for a residence in Palm Beach, FL.  The mechanics of the system were successfully engineered and tested with a 1:4 scale model prior to final design – each of four shades is motor-driven and can function independently.  RMD engineered custom support brackets, bearings, and shade tensioning systems – all had to integrate with other systems (opening skylight mechanism, HVAC, electrical) within constricted available soffit space.  Ross Weene and associate Max Salgado worked on-site installing and tuning this custom system.  Canvaswork done by Kinder Industries.

AMERICA’S CUP YACHT SCULPTURE

Sailing meets sculpture in this installation for Mr. William Koch.  America 3, the 1992 America’s Cup winner, and Il Moro di Venezia, her competitor, were on display in front of the Museum of Fine Arts from September-November 2005.  The exhibit was a huge success for the many involved in bringing the idea to reality.  The installation was then repeated in front of the Society of the Four Arts, Palm Beach, FL February-March 2006.
